Viktor Gyokeres wheels off in celebration after completing a hat-trick.
LISBON, PORTUGAL: Despite the way things have gone for both teams this season, no one could have predicted this. For Sporting, they have been flying high all season. Suffering no defeats all season and only being held to one draw, Ruben Amorim's men have been firing on all cylinders. On the other side, Manchester City have been facing their first rough patch after eight years under Pep Guardiola's management.
After Phil Foden's early goal to give Man City the lead, Viktor Gyokeres responded seven minutes before halftime to go in level at the break. Sporting came back out firing, scoring two goals in the first four minutes of the second half. Gyokeres completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute, completing his hat-trick to make it 4-1 for Sporting. City were unable to fight back, giving Sporting a historic result over the defending champions.
In what many looked at as a preview of Ruben Amorim's brand of football, a lot was learned of waht Manchester United can expect. It remains to be seen if Sporting can maintain this form post-Amorim, but they will be looking to finish strong under his tutelage.
